Description
The Sandspire, also known as the "City of Greed", is an oligarchy. This oasis city can be found near the edge of the desert and is home to a large group of pirates.
History
Before the dawn of man the Sand Elves of the Spire were building the ancient civilization of Xharlion. Their lands extended from the Sandspire desert all the way west past the Redrock Mountains. They were powerful magicians who were not content with knowledge of only the Realm of Agia. They experimented with portals to the other realms by building large arch shaped structures enchanted with the magic of the elves. Eventually the elves activated too many of the arches causing instability in the portals. Omazur, one of the demon lords of Hell, appeared and began rampaging throughout the Redrock area. The angels Rostiello and Sariel appeared to defend the mortal realm in a battle which would devastate the landscape and disturb the physics of the region. The elves that survived the battle would be scattered to other regions of Agia.
Nearly a millennium later a group of humans traveled North from the region that would later be known as Espladar. They traveled up the Sandywine river until they found a large delta. The built a city known as the Sandspire. As they explored the abandoned Elven ruins burried in the nearby dessert they discovered a secret underground river that allowed them safe passage to the other side of the Redrock Mountains. This gave them easy access to the Isles of Rhaegora whom they wished to trade with. However, the Rhaegorans wanted nothing to do with the outsiders and turned them away. The pirates of the Sandspire had seen their great wealth and attacked with a fleet of ships in the hope of taking the Islands for themselves. They were unexpectedly driven back by a group of monks but they were able to take many Rhaegorans captive to be used as slave labor.
Over the years the countries of Brance and Mallaston sprung up around them and even as their conflict began the Sandspire continued to trade with both. The City became rather wealthy and over time developed into an oligarchy. Now several rich families that run traditionally successful businesses rule the City. The most powerful family is Baako, who own the large shipyard and hires pirates to acquire items of rare value. After being captured by Brance and forced to battle in the arena Azir Baako declared slavery in the Sandspire illegal.
People
On the surface Lord Azir Baako owns the large shipyard in the Sandspire, secretly he is in charge of the large group of pirates that consider the Sandspire home.
Several other wealthy families run businesses out of the Sandspire. These families have yet to be determined.
Technology
The Sandspire trades with everyone and therefore has access to any type of technology that can be found in Agia.
