Name: Azazel Nickname: Zaan Age: 300 Race: Hellborn (Greed) Nation of Origin: Hell OOC Alias: Oracle
AppearanceDemon Form. His mortal form is in the large mini profile. (Prince of Persia face claims).
Role Azazel is a demon of the Aspect of Greed who is charged with torturing souls for information. Unlike a normal Hellborn his task is not to reshape mortal souls into more useful servants, but to extract useful information from new arrivals about the mortal world.
Azazel is skilled in illusion magic, he is able to induce feelings of fear and terror in mortals who fall prey to his spells. These spells typically work upon a mortals own corruption, making them very effective upon the average soul that comes into hell. Outside of hell these abilities are much easier for mortals to resist unless they are very corrupt. He can also shroud himself within shadow, making him nigh invisible if he can find a patch of darkness and he can teleport from shadow to shadow as long as he can see the shadow with his eyes.
More so than magic, Azazal is competent with light melee weapons such as swords and daggers. He is skilled at parrying attacks and fighting without a shield or armor, relying upon speed and agility to outdo his foes.
He is able to create a spiked chain that erects from his left arm. The chain is a powerful weapon that seems to have a mind of its own, wrapping around foes and constricting against them. It is very difficult to escape the grasp of this chain, and he often stabs and prods as they struggle to break free.
Now within the body of a rich Prince of the Sandspire, Zaan, Azazel has access to an airship and a lot of money. Thanks to information provided by Elric about this prince, Azazel is living the high life. He didn't exactly tell his higher ups that he was leaving hell on this field trip, so he has a lot to answer for if he gets sent back.
In demonic form Azazel is able to invoke a mist of pure fear. All mortals who inhale the mist begin to experience hallucinations of their worst fears and nightmares. These effects can persist for days to weeks, depending upon the amount that the mortal inhales. The mist can blanket an area around Azazel up to 100 feet.
Personality Azazel is known to be a very sarcastic and loves to mock the pains of mortals with a witty personality. In mortal live, Azazel coveted gold and riches for the advantages that they could bring to him. In his life as a demon, Azazel enjoys the satisfaction of taking from others. Azazel loves to play games and test mortals until they break. He will make groups of mortals in hell fight one another over a flask of water after leaving them in thirst for days, only to pour it out on the ground at the end and make them lap it up in front of the opponents that they had defeated like a dog.
Azazel occasionally finds a mortal that interests him and he spends a lot of one on one time with them. He will single a soul out and torture it until it breaks into complete insanity. These unfortunate souls who spend the most time with Azazel are exposed to the unlimited capacity of love that the demon has for playing mind games and inflicting pain upon others.
Azazel is still as greedy as he was as a mortal, but he has no way of keeping any material wealth in hell. His lust for riches and power is so great that he is loathsome of the Aspects of Sin who rule over him.
History Azazel was once a man from the kingdom of Brance who was part of an inquisition that sought out Mallastonian spies. Throughout his adult life, Azazel was regarded as one of Brance’s best torturers, identifying as many as two-hundred enemy spies in his day. Despite his esteem amongst Brance’s military, he soon found himself on the chopping block. Throughout his ten year career, almost half of the prisoners that died in torture had not been spies at all. Azazel had been targeting wealthy Brancian’s in order to find out about locations and combinations to vaults and hordes of treasure. He would purposely torture them to death to prevent any from finding out about what he had done. It wasn’t for many years that authorities began to suspect that the torturer was corrupt, noticing that he was living well beyond his means. In his late thirties, Azazel was executed by beheading.
Azazel’s soul traveled into the underworld, and shortly after that he was judged to be corrupt and cast into the pits of hell. He spent the next fifty years being tortured himself, experiencing the worst pains that he had ever felt but never truly breaking. Persevering through the torture, Azazel was one of a rare few souls that could not be shattered by the hellish captors. Over time, he was no longer being tortured in the pits but torturing mortals himself. He had become a hellborn charged with causing anguish to mortal beings. He found himself a servant of the Aspect of Greed, charged with gathering information from mortals about the world above.
Despite Azazel’s allegiances he never forgot his old desires. To his core Azazel is in love with the concepts of wealth and power. This makes it very difficult for the demon to accept his position as a lowly servant, and he desires nothing more than to serve only himself.
Recently during his time in the Pits, Azazel took pleasure in torturing a new pet, a selfish little being known as Elric. After only a small amount of interrogation Azazel would find out about Elric’s best friends, a Prince of the Sandspire, who was in possession of a valuable stone. Using some underground contacts, Azazel had cultists offer a massive sum for the stone.
Little did Zaan know, the stone wasn’t their target. When he went to sell it to them, they bound him and began preparing his body for sacrifice. Azazel had found his new ticket to a life of luxury, and it was all thanks to Elric.
Writing Sample Azazel stood atop a jagged stone within the brutal pits of hell, watching as souls poured from above into the realm from the underworld above them. Other demons of different shapes and sizes stood upon other stones as well, while many more were in the fields picking up souls and beginning to drag them off. This was one of several pits were mortal souls would first make their arrival within hell, but to Azazel it was little more than a day job.
“You look bored Azazel,” Glivia said in a mocking tone, she was one of the servants of the aspect of lust. A scantily clad creature with hellish looking fangs and a deceptive looking pretty face. She giggled a bit and Azazel rolled his eyes at her but returned a smug looking grin.
“I just havn’t found anyone interesting lately, it’s like the Aspozoch is just sending everyone down here these days, must be getting full up top,” Azazel said sarcastically. The succbi seemed to understand that he was joking, at least about the heavens being full.
Azazel looked back up into the sky as several more souls seemed to start tumbling down. He readied himself, it was quite the competition down here to grab a soul and get to work, and even the succubi was his opponent in this. If a demon came up empty handed by the end of a “work day” they would have to face the wrath of whichever pit boss was around, an unpleasant experience to say the least.
Several souls dropped onto the barren ground between Azazel, the Succubi, and several other demons. With a quickness Azazel lunged forward, whipping his chain around the first mortal that he saw and began dragging them away from the other demons. Other beasts grabbed at the other mortals, and he soon saw the demon woman chasing after him, no doubt intent on sealing his prey.
With a growl he barred his chest at her, clenching his teeth and threatening her with a dagger raised towards her.
“Back off, witch. This one is mine,” Azazel warned.
