Name: Morgan Blackwood. Age: 636 Race: Hellborn w/ Undead Human Host Nation of Origin: Espladar (Keiko=Rhaegora)(Nitrael=Hell) OOC Alias: Butterfly
Appearance
Role Morgan is a demon who must consume mortal souls to maintain her undead body. She has recently become the Court Wizard of the Old Castle in Espladar. She takes this duty rather seriously due to the deal she made with the Bandit King. She uses all her necromantic might to defend his people and in exchange the souls of those who die at the kings hand are hers to consume.
Morgan's power level and stamina depend greatly on the number of souls she was recently able to consume and she may only consume souls of those who died by her hand or (because of their deal) the hand of the King. She possesses a black crystal necklace which is capable of storing one soul for later use.
- She can raise and control up to five corpses per available soul.
- She can summon three skeletal warriors or two hell hounds.
- If she owns the soul of a specific body she can reanimate it in such a way that it can fight with the abilities it possessed in life.
- She can create an eerie fog and her gaze can paralyze an opponent in fear.
- She can summon a spirit from another realm if she knows their complete name.
- She can speak to and control spirits, even placing a soul in a new constructed body or an animal.
Personality Morgan is a complex creature. She is frightening to behold and enjoys the pain of others. She is amused by death and destruction but is often lonely. She prefers to have an accomplice in her mischief and in the absence of that prefers at least to be needed by others. She was pleased by her deal with the Bandit King as it allowed her access to more souls and furthered the corruption of the noble man's soul. However, she did not expect his kindness to touch her the way it had. A part of Morgan still wanted to be accepted and had quite forgotten what it was like to have somewhere to call home. Morgan would not risk crossing Luthias, not because of their deal but because of the emotional bond she has formed with him and his people. Many of the bandits still fear her and grow uncomfortable in her presence but Morgan is content to look down on them from her tower.
History Morgan Blackwood is a fusion of two very different souls. The first was formerly known as a Rhaegoran Priestess named Keiko Nakamura. As a child she was taken in, along with many other orphans, to be raised in the Temple of Elements. She possessed a natural affinity for healing and excelling in her training, she achieved the rank of Fellow in her early twenties. Shortly after achieving her rank, however, she fell in love with a humble fisherman named Daichi Mizushima. Keiko had a fondness for the sea, and met Daichi on a peer in the market of Rhaegora. Although he was a simple man, he had a wonderful personality that swept her off of her feet. Soon Keiko began abandoning her studies and eventually left the service of the temple in order to marry the fisherman. They settled down in a village by the sea to the east of the capital city. Although they had little, they were a happy couple and Keiko bore a child at the age of twenty five.
All was well until after just after the child had turned six. Pirates came to raid the village which was unprotected by the capital. A cannon ball tore through their home, instantly killing Daichi and wounding Keiko, who was unable to locate her little girl in the debris. Drawing upon her previously learned skills as a priestess, she went fourth to fight the pirates in a futile battle. That day Keiko should have died, but the pirates took her captive and enslaved her into their service. Keiko spent nine years as a slave and servant to the cruel pirates of the Sandspire, but as she aged into her forties they grew tired of her and sold her to the highest bidder. The cult of Necromancers known as the Tetragamma purchased the slave in order to use her in a demonic summoning ritual. They took the priestess into a shadowy cave in Espladar and cut out the woman’s heart. As she died part of Keiko's spirit departed for the underworld. However, the portion of her soul that was connected to Agia clung desperately to life.
When the summoning was complete some cruel demon would infuse the walking corpse with a new consciousness. The sloth hellborn, Nitrael, had managed to enter the body. Nitrael had been a noble of Espladar just over 600 years ago. He was a lazy and selfish man with far too much free time. Nothing especially grand ever happened to Nitrael whose lack of diligence led to his death and the fall of the Kingdom of Espladar. When he apprived in hell he found Aiowomar sleeping. He could feel the power radiating from the Aspect of Sloth and spent the next few hundred years learning to harness that power. All that time with nothing to do drove the hellborn to the edge of sanity. Now he takes pleasure from the simple things like devouring souls and manipulating corpses. When he heard the necromancers chanting in Agia he jumped at the chance to live again. However, he was not expecting to find a part of Keiko still inhabiting the body. The two souls fought a silent battle until finally the two had lost themselves becoming one new being.
If the being that awoke was Keiko or Nitrael, it was not aware of either past life. Possessing sentience, the cult that raised the creature gave her the name Morgan Blackwood and began teaching her how to use necromancy to extend her reanimation and to manipulate spirits. After five years with the cultists, Morgan grew resistant to the power of the spells that bound her and she fled the Tetragamma. With no master to bind her, the corpse was left to her own devices, although her need to feast upon souls would limit her ability to relate to mortals.
Morgan traveled alone through the dark woods of Espladar for quite some time before the Bandit King heard rumors of the necromancer. She was surprised to receive an invitation to the old castle and even more surprised to find the roguish King brave enough to stand in her presence. The two struck a mutually beneficial deal and Morgan took up residence in one of the far towers of the castle as his Court Wizard.
Writing Sample It was nearly midnight and the crescent moon illuminated Morgan’s path through the trees. She created a chilling aura and the air around her was thick with an eerie fog. The forest was silent except for the desperate screams she could sense coming from the black soul gem that hung from a string around her neck. The poor soul had stumbled upon her earlier in the night and she was saving him for later.
Her bones creaked as she walked slowly in the direction of a distant castle. She stopped in a clearing having noticed several recently dead bodies lying on the ground. There must have been a skirmish between clans. She knelt down next to the nearest corpse and caressed the man’s face. The man’s arm twitched. She smiled in amusement as he sat up straight and turned his head to stare at her. His eyes were vacant, his face expressionless. Morgan knew his soul had departed for the underworld hours ago, but she couldn't help but enjoy manipulating her new doll.
She stood up and he did the same. She looked him over, noticing that the entrails dripping from his midsection were already infested with maggots and his body was stiff from rigor mortis. It had probably been a slow death. She began to grow bored of him and desired more company. Several of the other bodies rose and stared at her waiting for instruction. She swayed back and forth moving her hips seductively and the corpses followed her lead. They began a strange and grotesque dance, sometimes snapping their bones into unnatural positions.
Her mouth formed a wicked grin at the sight, but she wished for someone to enjoy her new playthings with. The thoughtless Zombies made poor company. Morgan had been wandering alone ever sense she had broken the Tetragamma Cultist’s hold over her. Besides the necromancer’s no one would willingly face her for fear of losing their soul. She tried to maintain her body by devouring souls, but her undead nature was apparent to all. She didn't mind that the mortals avoided her, she had long since forgotten how to be one. Morgan did not feel cold or fear or pain.
