Name: Luthias Yarrin
Nickname: The Bandit King
Age: 39
Race: Human
Nation of Origin: Born in Mallaston, fled to Espladar as a child
OOC Alias: Aireaz
Appearance
Luthias is a tall man with dark, shaggy hair and gray eyes. He is strong with several scars, most notably a jagged white line across his forehead over his left eye.
Role
Luthias is the “king” in Espladar castle. He holds together a loose alliance of the bandits and thieves of Espladar by enforcing a code of honor. He gained this position by earning the respect of those around him and offering a place in his castle to any person who is willing to contribute. He is a charismatic con man, but takes his responsibility very seriously.
He is a skilled archer and, on occasion, a brawling fighter. He has a hawk inside of which the necromancer, Morgan, trapped the soul of a man he killed. The soul is bound to Luthias as a penance for his crimes in life. But, having no magical abilities himself, he must rely on Morgan to read the hawk and give him messages.
Personality
Luthias is a con man at heart, preferring to talk his way out of situations when he can, but not afraid to fight when it is necessary. He inspires loyalty from his people by following through with his promises to protect them and meting out justice when the code of honor is broken. The people he leads may refer to him as king, but he never calls himself that. He thinks of his people as a sort of extended family, not subjects.
He knows that the society he built is tenuous at best, and does not ask anything of the inhabitants of the castle that he would not do himself. He leads raids when the situation calls for it, or chooses the people best suited for a task. He relies on a small council of trusted friends and advisors, but only behind closed doors. He knows that appearing weak in the eyes of the residents of the castle would send his society back into chaos.
History
Luthias was born in Mallaston, the only son of humble parents. When he was eight years old his father was killed while travelling through the Blue Mist Mountains. His mother packed up their meager belongings and moved to Espladar where Luthias’ uncle, Reynald, was living with a band of thieves. Under the care of his father’s brother, Luthias learned the ways of Espladar and became an excellent thief. Using his youth and charm he proved useful to the group and grew to earn respect. When Luthias was a teen, Reynald ascended to lead their informal group of bandits and Luthias became his right hand. Shortly after he turned 21 Luthias seized control of the angry group after Reynald was murdered for his latest score. He rallied the men and led them to the camp where a group of thieves was dividing Reynald’s belongings.
Luthias and his men overtook the camp and killed their leader, afterward Luthias offered membership to any left alive who had not been involved in the death of his uncle. They continued in this way for several years until their numbers grew to a point of being a treat to others. Luthias knew that they needed somewhere they could fortify and set his sights on the abandoned castle.
He led a scouting party to test the structural integrity of the castle and get rid of any squatters. They found much of the inner castle was in ill repair but salvageable. He moved the people in and began repairs to the outer walls and defenses first. Some of the wings are not safe, but they cleaned and repaired much of the old architecture.
Luthias holds court in the old throne room, but sits on the step in front of the crumbling throne.
Luthias relied on his best friend, Gorge as his closest advisor and leaves him in charge when leaving the castle.
After a few years of unorganized raids by groups who felt threatened, much of Espladar left the castle alone. They had the numbers and organization to ward off many threats and most of the unsavory characters of the forgotten island knew better than to start a fight they couldn’t win. This sense of order is what Luthias believed brought the lost battalion of Brance to the castle gates. In exchange for their protection, he offered them the same deal as the residents of the castle plus a fair wage. The details of the deal are not known, but they have served well. After a time of peace, Luthias heard rumors of a necromancer disturbing some of the people just outside the castle and sent for her. She offered an alliance, she would receive the souls of the men he killed in exchange for an invaluable spy. She enslaved the soul of the man who had killed Reynald into the body of a hawk. The hawk could fly anywhere and report back what he saw and heard to Morgan. She would in turn, report to Luthias. She now resides in a dilapidated tower at the north of the castle where she is mostly left alone. The castle residents fear her, and do not dare to disturb her.
Two years ago the mage Elric came to Luthias asking for his assistance in a raid on the Island of Rhaegora. With help from the Sandspire, Luthias, his raiders and half of the lost battalion were able to procure some very valuable artifacts and return to the castle victorious.

Word spread that someone had moved into the castle, so Luthias sent word out that those who would join their group peacefully would not be turned away. They had cleared out the kitchens and the best living areas and they were nearly finished with the large hall that would be used as common space. He had set some of the children to clearing the overgrowth in the square. Luthias thought that they were established enough to grow a bit. Extra hands were always useful, especially because he was fairly certain he knew what was coming.
People began to trickle in slowly at first, most probably not believing in what they heard. He didn’t blame them, he wouldn't have trusted a group of thieves either but he planned on proving himself and his family. They showed up in groups of two or three, sometimes a family but they all got the same greeting.
"Tell me who you are and show me what weapons you possess," he would never take their weapons but if they had more than they claimed to then they were not trusted and were not allowed to stay. Everyone had to earn their keep, taking rotations in the kitchen, the guard, and continued castle fortifications. Each newcomer was responsible for finding and clearing out their own living space and helping with the food gathering. Within the first month their number had reached 70 strong, not counting the children or the few older folks who could no longer labor.
Luthias had been sure that someone would try to attack and take what now belonged to them, but so far it had been quiet. Rather than making him happy, that worried Luthias. He had lived in Espladar almost his whole life, it had never been this quiet.
